Class Descriptions

 

Theatre Students will explore acting and the development of theatre/film as an art form. Students will learn about Shakespeare and other great playwrights. Students will play theatre games, learn monologues and participate in live performances and festivals.

 

Media This class will study and practice the art of filmmaking. Students will learn about famous movies and the history of the art form. Students will participate in multiple film projects.

 

Stage Crew/Design Students will explore and practice all aspects of “behind the scenes” of plays and movies. This includes building, designing, organizing, cleaning, and mastering equipment and building materials.  Some after school and weekend commitments.

 

Play Production Students will prep and rehearse for live performances at school and for festivals and competitions. After school and weekend commitments.

Deborah Raphael

Theatre and Media Teacher

 

Deborah Raphael is a proud product of Los Angeles Unified School District where she attended Hollywood High Performing Arts Magnet. Her love for theatre inspired her to get a degree in Theatre Arts from California State University Northridge. Deborah then went on to travel throughout the country as a performing artist in social issue theatre. Deborah has taught a variety of grades in both elementary and middle school throughout her teaching tenure. Deborah joined the Arts Education Branch in 2008 where she has now taught over 12,000 elementary students. In addition to Deborah's strong theatre background she has a passion for technology and got her Masters Degree in Educational Technology in 2005. Deborah uses her tech skills and theatre techniques to bring stories to life. She specialize is using the iPad to make short movies, trailers, and multi media stories. Deborah has won a “Video in the Classroom” award for her short movie about Mount Rushmore. Deborah currently works at Sepulveda Middle School where she teaches theatre and media. Mrs. Raphael’s classes have won numerous awards and have performed numerous times for packed audiences. Deborah loves to learn, share, and grow and can't wait to see what her students do next.
